Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 2026  ·  Last updated: July 2026

Save Thyme is built to help you cook, not to harvest your data. We collect only what's necessary to make the extension work, we don't sell your information, and we don't run advertising.

1. Who we are

Save Thyme ("we", "us", "our") is a Chrome browser extension for saving recipes and planning meals. This policy describes how we handle information when you use the Save Thyme extension.

If you have questions, see Contact below.

2. Information we collect

We collect the minimum needed to make Save Thyme functional.

WhatWhyWhere stored
Anonymous install ID A random UUID generated when you first install the extension. Identifies your account without requiring sign-in. Your browser (chrome.storage.local) and Google Firestore
Recipes you save Title, source URL, ingredients, tags, serving size, cook time, and cover image — exactly what you saved. Your browser (chrome.storage.local)
Ingredient normalizations When the extension encounters a new ingredient, it sends the raw text to our AI service to produce a clean, standardized form. Verified results are shared anonymously to improve matching for all users. Google Firestore (community cache)
Usage limits Monthly normalization count, used to enforce free-tier limits. Google Firestore
Subscription status Whether you have an active premium subscription. Google Firestore, Stripe

Your meal plan, pantry, and shopping list are stored only in your browser and are never sent to our servers.

3. Information we do not collect

4. How we use your information

Everything we collect is used solely to make Save Thyme work:

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the extension.

5. Third-party services

ServiceProviderWhat they handle
Database Google Firestore Stores your install ID, usage counts, subscription status, and shared ingredient normalizations
AI normalization OpenAI Processes raw ingredient text to produce standardized names. Text is sent transiently and not retained by OpenAI for training under our API agreement.
Payments Stripe Handles premium subscription billing. We receive only a customer ID and subscription status — no card details.
Email Resend Delivers meal plan emails when you use that optional feature. Your email address is used only for delivery and not stored by us.

Each provider's own privacy policy governs how they handle data on our behalf. We do not use advertising, analytics, or social media SDKs.

6. Data storage and security

Recipe data, your meal plan, and preferences are stored in your browser's local storage and are not accessible to other extensions or websites.

Data stored in Firestore (install ID, usage counts, ingredient normalizations) is held in Google's infrastructure under industry-standard security controls.

By design, we hold low-sensitivity data — we do not store full recipes in the cloud, only the metadata needed to operate the service.

7. Data retention

8. Your rights

You may request deletion or export of your data at any time. To delete your Firestore account record, email us at the address below and we will remove it within 30 days. Browser data (recipes, settings) can be cleared immediately by uninstalling the extension.

Residents of the EEA (GDPR), California (CCPA), and other jurisdictions with data privacy laws may have additional rights. We honor deletion and access requests from all users regardless of location.

9. Children's privacy

Save Thyme is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the extension and provided data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes — for example, adding new data uses or third-party services — we will update the effective date above. We may also notify you through the extension if the change is significant.
